Senior Subject Selections 2020
REVS Program
REVS stands for: Retention-Engagement-Vocation-Skills
The program presents students with a vocational pathway of study – with a strong focus on the development of 21st century skills.
The REVS program aims to engage students with their education and provide them with the opportunity to develop employability and workplace skills. This has become imperative for those students under 17 years of age who have been unable to attain work at the end of Year 10. This program provides a transition pathway to either work or further study.
The REVS program promotes enterprise and experiential learning. The students run a small not-for-profit business called REV IT UP Maintenance. The students in the program operate the business and learn about all aspects of running a small business. The business takes job requests from within the school and local community and completes these on a designated workday. Students also complete other smaller jobs during Work Studies lessons.
Areas of work include: construction, landscape and gardening, painting, repairs, cleaning, officials at sporting events, volunteer activities, reading groups at the local primary school and administration and office tasks.
The REVS program requires students to satisfactorily complete courses in:
-
Maths - Standard
-
English - Studies
-
Work Studies
-
VET course x 2 – choice between Construction or Business Services, Manufacturing & Engineering or Hospitality
-
Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation
-
EVET course – encouraged but not compulsory
-
Work experience/Work Day
This pattern of study will allow a student to still obtain a HSC qualification but without an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR). This means they are unable to gain entry directly from school into a university course. Involvement in TAFE courses or satisfying requirements to be a mature-aged student will still allow entry into university in the future. VET courses develop workplace skills and allow students to gain nationally recognised qualifications in their chosen areas of interest.
Applying for the REVS program
Students nominate to be part of the program as part of the Senior Subject Selection process. There is a written application, which requires parent/carer sign-off. Click on the links below for a nomination form and student contract.
